Took a job in ATL for this reason and tbh COL is not better than DC and the city is not great. Looking to move to DC or NYC.
Chicago. Despite popular belief it’s really not *that* much colder than the East Coast. Chicago Jan average temps high 32, low 22. NYC high 39, low 26.
I love San Diego but it's now VHCOL
Agreed…sigh
SF is a lot of fun!

SF is amazing. Wouldn't trade it.
Do you find cost of living pretty doable?
What is FAANG
Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Google. Generally considered some of the best in house jobs as least regarding comp and prestige.
Miami? Fun town with no state income tax?
Pro
Charlotte? Nashville? Austin? I’ve heard good things about those cities and believe they are more “medium” COL.
As they say in the real estate business - location, location, location. The places popularly viewed as “fun” will tend to be higher COL.
Pro
Austin is assuredly NOT medium COL.
I've lived in Boston, Dallas and Denver and all 3 cities have positives. Most of your larger cities will have many in-house opportunities as big cities attract companies and talent. Honestly, living in a place you enjoy goes a long way. Work will always have ups and downs, but when you can unplug and enjoy being in the place you live, it really helps bring up your quality of life. Even if the COL is high, that usually means there are a lot of public amenities to enjoy. Coasts will always have a higher COL, but if you're a beach/ocean person, it'll be worth it. If you're not, it doesn't make much sense to pay premiums to live somewhere you don't enjoy.
