^ Been in-house for a few years now, and while I like most nights and weekends back, getting other internal teams to understand design is a frustrating challenge (versus it being infused into work culture like at agencies).
In-house marketing team. I worked in advertising, got downsized when a client went bankrupt, and wound up in-house. For what it’s worth, I’m trying to get back into an agency. Working at a company that focused on great creative is fun, but working at a company that is focused on selling widgets can be a drag when you want to do great creative
If you’re on the design side, you can also look for boutique design companies

Do all companies have in house creatives? If not, how do you find the ones that do?
If you’re at DDB Chicago, Crate & Barrel has an internal team and is in Northbrook.
Check if your clients or their competitors are hiring. You’ll know their business and industry so it will be an easier sell.
Look for companies with an HQ near you. Then search for graphic designer/art director titles at that company on LinkedIn. Also see where colleagues are working.
Chicago has lots of in house teams - Capital One, Braintree, Salesforce, Motorola, McDonalds, Allstate, Foot Locker are some off the top of my head. Check your LinkedIn connections (and connect/network with clients if you have a decent working relationship) and see if someone can get you in.
Go to a startup. Or start your own.
