I would ask your doctor if you have one if Aetna is a problem player. The doctors know which companies are fair and those that aren't. If Aetna is a problem player you are likely to get a crappy insurance plan.
I think it’s probably best to go with what the company is providing in order to get the pre tax benefit
I have low deductible anthem ppo (no longer at pwc) and it’s been pretty good although significantly more expensive ($120 per paycheck)
I had United health care and tbh with that my real health insurance was the grace of God. It was very atrocious
My company has Aetna and it is okay. IMO they mandate too much what meds they will pay for where you can get them filled. Just hope you don’t have to deal with a disease that is degenerative over time and that generic drugs work for you because it gets more and more challenging to get them to cover the costs. So far not having an issue with coverage for docs I want to go to.
I had Aetna 2 years ago and was fighting with them left and right for routine preventive care visits that should have been covered in full under my PPO plan. It’s like pulling finger nails - they always seem to find something out of network or out of the scope of the plan to sneak into your bill and pass costs on to you. It varies plan by plan but my experience with them was pretty terrible. Receiving surprise bills months after an appointment was the norm and their CS & billing department don’t care about you at all.
