For me, it's that you are in charge of your own career and no one cares about it like you do. Ask for what you want and make your own opportunities. Doing great work is a good first step, but it's not enough to really build the career you want.

What’s your pay range at different firm and region/city at managing director level? I am not sure I am underpaid

Looking for an entry level non exempt positions. I've been in and out of both food service and retail for years. I know what I'm worth and I know how strong my work ethic is. I do not enjoy having carrots dangling out of reach, preventing me from furthering my career. Seems all this 20 something year olds are getting what I feel I do deserve (no ego). I'm fairly experienced in management and am willing to learn more.

Is our industry as competitive as some say? I see a lot of people saying this and I work with a bunch of hacks (myself included). Im a pastry cook with 4yrs experience and the average salary start for this position is now at $22/hr here in vegas, especially in the strip. But cooking/baking is not my passion. So im changing into veterinary medicine and im seeing that the starting rate for a vet tech is around $16-18. Why is that?? Why are people in the vet med industry being paid so low?? Something needs to change. Labor of love aint enough for the people in this job.
