I just left BAH. The firm is STRICTLY staff augmentation. I worked in health/aviation/financial services and honestly there is VERY little advisory happening across all lines of business. I don't know what firm you're at but stay there or go elsewhere. Complete waste of time.
OP it really depends on what you're making now. They don't generally negotiate. Ball park with 1.5 YOE , probably no more than 80k. Titles are as follows: 1-consultant, 2-senior consultant, 3-associate, 4-lead associate, 5-senior associate, 6-principal, 7-VP 8-SVP/EVP 9-Officer
OP- forget it. Even if you got the 75 you would have 2-4% raises after that. Zero exaggeration.
Also, to clarify, the commercial work at BAH makes up less than 8% of overall firm revenue... Not sure it's even worth mentioning. The work is (almost) ALL Fed.
There is almost no commercial practice. Like if a recruiter is telling you about the commercial group, just know that I was aligned to it for 3 years and never once worked a commercial project. So they don't make a distinction in pay because the work is so sparse. This is a Federal contract company- nothing more (and I left on" great terms" so nothing bitter about any of this- these are just the facts). Go industry!
I respectfully disagree with BAH2 re: culture. The majority of leadership all knew each other while serving and it's very much a good ole boys club. The # of employees under the age of 40 HASSS to be less than 30% of the company
@D1 - I partially agree. That can be common. It's different by group tho. I a got 38% raise plus promotion all within 6-7 months (market salary adjustment last June and promo plus another market sal adjustment last Dec. for a grand total of 38% bump). To be honest, I started out severely under market....guess that speaks for itself tho.
*asking for opinion from people who work there , what's the culture like
Hmm healthcare on federal market or the commercial side?
As for culture - I dig it - it really is a "can ask anyone for help at anytime and they'll actually help" kind of thing.
Either one. I'm transitioning out of pharma and trying to figure out which side to pursue. Looking for pros and cons of federal since I have some experience with commercial
Well my perception of federal is the pay may be a bit lower but it is steadier and you work closer to the pace of government.
I'm not in healthcare personally but I know there was an acquisition recently and there is a lot of healthcare on the federal side
I just left Pwc. Trying to decide if I should continue with the consulting life or go to industry
How much of a difference in pay is there between commercial and fed?
Ya, fed practice is slim but it does exist (emphasis on the "slim"). Pay varies (depends on city) but work-life balance is pretty great. Trade offs, a little less pay (ballpark 15% under market) but you'll work a lot less than the rest of our colleagues. The firm does care about the individuals and it shows. Great culture. Just know what you want.
It is mostly defense still naturally.
It's a 20k + employee company that feels even bigger. If you get a bad admin chain it will be all staff aug (like D1). I guess I lucked out, no staff aug and awesome hours here
So what's someone with 1.5 years of experience looking to make? And what are the level titles?
@OP - 1.5 yoe on west coast would prob get you sr. Con (level 2) and around 65-75k
I'm east coast, was making 60, this uncommon for promotion would've been probably around 75k so hoping to at least match that
