As others have commented, it depends but the real driver is how big the profit pool is. The metric to pay attention to is net income per partner. There are many large firms (CLA & BDO) that buy smaller less profitable firms so size isn’t everything but you do need a certain size and scale to minimize overhead and attract larger clients with bigger fees and margins. $1M +/- NIPP is the benchmark.
I started at a small 40 person CPA firm, the two founding partners made around $650k-$800k depending on the year. That's pretty similar to what the mid to better partners at B4 are getting. So I guess it kinda depends and larger firms don't always pay more (but probably do more than not.) That small firm was mostly a 1040 shop though...one of the partners alone would touch 20+ returns a day 7 days a week for like 2 months straight. Some returns were prepared by staff, but honestly he did more all by himself. Those partners worked more than anyone else in the firm though, kind of different than a big firm in that way. Was kinda insane how many returns they had though...

McDonald’s vs. Ruth Chris?
“Top 200” lol. Just say regional/ local firm. Could be as low as 200k
Lmao no it was funny
Dang did EY slide down to 199th largest firm this year?
Obviously it can vary a lot but from my experience it was very similar at a top 200, top 20 and what I netted as a sole proprietor.
What was the comp at top 200 and top 20?

I have a friend that’s a partner in a 25 person firms (4 partners) and he makes $350k
200k to 1.5M
There is a difference for sure but outside big four, it isn't as big as you think. Also depends on LOB and location.
The average and median partner comp #'s are far far apart at most cpa firms, including big 4. Big 4 partner comp in total is up 20-30% this year. Not by person but just the total overall.
