Not too fancy. But I get to do what I love for an alright amount of money, and I also get to go home on weekends. It's great!
I only work 7-8 hours a day and able to enjoy my day off without interruption. I get to enjoy my work, sometimes do overtime but never went home late. There will be times where I get an emergency call but that seldom happens.
I'd say not perfect, but not too bad. I still have some free time over the weekends to spend with my family and pets.
I am not that overworked, thankfully. I am paid a decent amount with benefits and other perks. My weekends are pretty much vacant.
In vet school, don't expect much, but the outside that is actually quite pleasant. I have a good job, work four days a week, and spend a lot of time with my loved ones. Having said that, I only have those chances because I worked very hard to get here.
It is simple to get drawn in and spend your life at work, but there are methods to strike a healthy balance between work and life. In general, I'd argue that most private practice specialists have the choice to maintain a good work-life balance. But, the route to get there is undoubtedly difficult.
I feel I have a good work-life balance since I take a decent amount of time off each week for hobbies and other activities. There are methods to make it work as a veterinarian who practices clinically, as well as many other non-clinical pathways, but alas, it isn't given out that way.
My clinic's doctors often come in 3–4 days a week and set their own hours. One vet will go at 11 and return for an hour at 4.
I think that would greatly vary if you're a parent as well. Right now I work 5 days a week from 7-3 and I still have plenty of time to do everything I want to do simply because I have no other responsibility than myself.
