Accenture Strategy hires many MBAs and tries to do “strategic” work. Accenture Consulting is largely process improvement and change management. Accenture Tech is system implementation work. Obviously WLB and compensation is negatively correlated in that order. But to be honest, Accenture’s value proposition is selling strategy, following it up with processes, and then implementing it themselves. Therefore, as you move up the ladder, you’ll find yourself spanning across all those work.

What are your skills in? There is a world of difference between Strategy and Technology, so it’s not like a person can just randomly chose between them.
Strategy is definitely the hardest to get into, but the pay is much higher.
The three areas are vastly different: different talent profiles, different progression models (and compensation), different projects.
I started in MC and transferred to strategy; the transfer process isn’t as difficult as most people make it out to be. I honestly think most folks just don’t put in the time or energy that it requires. Transferring gave me an almost 30% pay raise and my WLB was unchanged (as I was doing strategy work to begin with). There are burners on all sides of the organization. What matters more is what practice you’re in as that dictates the content of the engagements and the people. So do some research on our practice areas (functional vs. industry aligned) and I think you’ll naturally find where you’d be more interested. Happy to answer specific questions tho if some arise — I work in our legacy CFO practice but recently reorged into our cross functional/enterprise strategy group.
