What happens if I just leave the country? Move to Canada or something, I wouldn't have to pay my loans back then, right?

Foreign earned income doesn't count, so if on income based plan you could get on the $0 plan. You'd still have the loans on the books though. I think (obviously check somebody official) that like anyone else you'd be eligible for forgiveness at 20 years.

My family friend has tons of dental school loans decades ago and moved abroad with his family. At some point, the loan services found him and he negotiated a lump sum payoff for the loans that was a bunch less than whatever he owed. He took out those loans in the 80s, so it’s a different world than comparing it to our debt now. I wouldn’t really recommend it - aside from it being sort of fraud, he legit had trouble coming back to the US.

Are you asking what happens if you commit fraud? 👀

it's not fraud. It's simply non-payment. I just don't know if your credit history in the US follows you to another country.

Get an IDR

If you can do this maybe this is what I need to do hahahah. I don't think I am ever going to get my loans paid off and it really can be so debilitating.

Sell or keep my old condo? Condo worth around 450k and still 310k balance to pay off. Mortgage is 2200 (adding HOA) and monthly rental is 2300-2400. Should I keep it or ditch it given that the cash flow is so minimal & upcoming maintenance might take me another hit?

Now, with a loss of pay , we are going to make less. Do you think I will be eligible for Loan forgiveness?
