Seriously? If you are really a partner you can create whatever "cause" you wa t to fire someone. Lesson is to not piss off the partners.
I knew a D who staffed an entire project with undergrad seniors on the promise of getting a job when they graduated. They weren't even proper/official interns. Just kids he picked up at a campus recruiting event, working on their own laptops for like 40 hrs a week. Total maverick

You mean aside from poor performance? Expense fraud. Inappropriate behavior in the workplace. Harassment. Mediocre performance. Crashing into parked cars at client's parking lot after being told multiple times to slow down. Running a consulting business on the side and using firm's assets to do so. Refusing to work. Using drugs in the workplace.

These are not my values. Telling it like it is and it works both ways... I've seen reasons fabricated to remove people; folks protected, for clear violations.
Mostly politics
Almost never seen someone fired for performance.
Expenses and having affairs with people in reporting relationships.
Staffed a project with unqualified resources makes him partner material. Um, really?
Lying about academic credentials. Independence violations.
Not fired but one of my teammates slammed another one against the wall for not pulling his weight. Had to work remotely after that. Security was there next day to make sure he didn't show up.

Do we really fire people for mediocre performance? I've seen lots of people with mediocre or worse performance at the firm.
I believe what OP is trying to accomplish with this thread is a follow up to the troll post where someone got fired for expensing something they shouldn't have.
I agree, this could be a good thread so people don't fall into bad habits and lose their jobs.
Personally haven't seen anything crazy.... yet.
Had one situation where someone was given a strong warning (almost got fired but was given another chance) after going into the office on a weekend, drunk, with a non-firm drunk friend and being caught on tape spitting in an elevator and claiming no memory of it after.
