My wife asks for the same thing every year: to be responsible for no one, for any reason, other than herself. No decisions, no planning, no management of any part of the day. She doesn’t care what we eat, when we eat it, where we go or don’t go. She just wants a full day’s break.
She will play with the kids and be fully immersed without having to worry about snacks or lunch or naps. She will go on a run or a walk without time pressure to be back for anything.
It is her favorite day.
Yeah, to be fair we do this every weekend when we are home. We are both in consulting and our weeks can be intense. We split Saturday in half and we fully rotate bedtimes.
If the other parent wants to join when it is their off time, they are welcome to, but there is zero expectation. It has done wonders for our entire families satisfaction
