I have friends with very relevant backgrounds getting rejected without interview despite referrals and other friends who don’t even know what enterprise value means getting interview opportunities. What are these recruiters doing? How does someone with a transactions background and cpas passed AND referral get rejected and someone with NONE of the above get through?

I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. Examples include telling an Asian person they are too quiet/shy or telling a Black person they are agressive/abrasive. DO NOT DO THIS. It clearly represents bias in Performance Management.
