Yes, you will have to do a Transition Assistants Program class before you get out. You will be directed to the right resources to get started and preparing yourself back civilian life.
Awesome, thanks! Did you find it all to be helpful?
Yes. Also depending on your location, and MOS, there are numerous training opportunities for employment within your skill set which helps you to break into the civilian sector. E.g Windmill Industry, Medical equipment/Lab Tech industry, law enforcement etc. Generally when you are recruited it comes with a guaranteed slot for recruitment into your local state trooper or law enforcement agency when you leave the service.
That's encouraging. Thanks for sharing!
I will be retiring soon. I would just be out here lurking in the comment section. Thanks in advance for your answers!
It's an exciting but nerve-racking position to be in, without a doubt. Good luck to you!
Got out. Went to school (accounting). Worked with information systems for twenty-five years. Retired.
One wife, no kids, no debt, one big ol' pile of savings.
It doesn't suck.
Sounds like a good deal! Happy for you!!
It took me about a decade to get into a career after getting out, but that was partially due to me not really knowing what I wanted to do.
But I'm loving life now. I actually get treated like an adult by my job, which is a nice change. And my family doesn't have to share me.
I was going back and forth wanting to re-enlist until I finally realized that my body isn’t what it used to be. The constant pain is deff catching up to me. I guess that’s why my disability is at 80%.
Now I’m enjoying using my GI bill and I hope to become a nurse. I still get fleeting moments of wanting to go back but at this point I’m really enjoying my freedom.
Infinitely better. Married, finished three degrees, starting another soon, work from home, 6 figure job, make my own schedule, etc. Makes me realize how absolute crap the navy was by comparison.
I make good money in social work.. I've just constantly struggled to feel like I belong.
Its what you make of it. Most of us miss something about our time in.
Where do you make good money in social work? I'd like to get into social work, but many of the opportunities I've seen aren't the best paying.
