What is the main benefit working in tech (regardless of position) in your opinion? (free food, wlb, pay, healthcare coverage, PTO, expense at home office setup, free gym access, etc)

Pay is the largest factor for most of us. Few industries pay as well, and those that do (investment banking, big law, venture capital, management consulting, etc.) aren’t accessible to people outside of major cities, which negates much of the earning potential. Before tech my OTE in a sales management position was 80k in 2014 for a 45+ hour/week office job, my total comp in a sales adjacent role in tech is 231k for a 100% remote role.

I like the work, it's challenging and rewarding. I can create things that actual people find useful. I really enjoy solving problems & learning stuff.

Thankfully software has taken over the world so it's also lucrative(ish) nowadays as well. Most engineers aren't going to touch the mid to high end of doctor or lawyer money, and it doesn't have the cachet, but then again I don't need to go through additional schooling or recertifications every few years. Wlb is also pretty great and it seems less stressful than some of those other professions.

like

I think generally speaking, most ppl with in tech for the pay & prestige

One of my favorite aspects is the customers we get to work with and the use cases we get to enable.

I like that the field is ALWAYS evolving…you always get to (and have to) keep learning new things!

Pay and benefits are unmatched

As someone who worked in tech only for the short bit, it was 100% the money and the food. The WLB was meh, I didn’t get healthcare or PTO, no home office set up or free gym access. But man, I was definitely there for the pay. And there was always extra food and free milk tea to go around all the time.

Not having to deal with Karens and Kens.

Pay and benefits. Plus, you have more opportunities to transition since the industry is diverse. I'm happy with my pay and benefits

Tech employees are normally the backroom guys who don't have to deal with frustrating customer service responsibilities. We can do our job with only our managers pestering us.

I don’t want to overstep or make him feel insecure. Just wondering if anyone else has ever been here.
