I spoke with a recruiter recently about a position in her company and before we even began talking about the job, she asked if I needed an sponsorship, I told her no, I dont need one. But she continued to press on the subject until I had to tell her I was a US citizen. I dont know why, but the whole conversation made me extremely uncomfortable. I've decided to leave public for an Accounting Manager position in private. What are the different types of companies to consider and the pros/cons? What are the best ways to get the position? How common is it for first year associates to spin wheels? In my 4th month, I spent 6 hours doing a return with 3 K-1 royalties, 2 Schedule C with few expenses, and the usual 1099-DIV/INT, including consolidated 1099. Budgeted time was 5 hours total. I have yet to get my return reviewed.

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

Question about solo/self-employed 401ks: If I create a sole-member LLC for a side business and create a solo/self-employed 401k, am I only allowed to make contributions from the earnings earned via the LLC? Or am I allowed to contribute money earned from a different source (ie W-2 job).

After working 5+ years and letting life happen, I ended up back with a staff title (no career/group change). Everyone said I was doing well throughout my career. But most of peers are now managers, senior managers, directors, controllers, etc. I really don’t want to compare, but how do I deal with this so it doesn’t bother me? Intl Tax folks, how long did it take before you were confident in your role? I've worked for the past 3 years in a practice that is heavily consulting based (inbound and outbound structuring) and I feel like I'm only just starting to understand the foundational concepts (where I can explain them clearly to clients) and offering a shred of value. Then I'll have calls where partners discuss complex tax, legal, treasury and other related concepts that all go over my head.. it becomes overwhelming

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
