Glad that hasn't happened to me, I'd probably be slapping that hand away before I realized what I'd done. I can get focused on something right in front of me big time, but if I can't see that hand coming, no touchy! Tapping the table next to me is enough to get my attention. I've learned to keep my head on a swivel at work to avoid that awkwardness (usually during sidework like rolling silverware or folding pizza boxes...do a few, look around). And it's why I avoid phone use... gives them an in to use touch to get your attention.
Yes! I have this issue too! Usually male customers for me as well. One even grabbed my arm to move/turn my arm around to look at my tattoos AS I WAS ACTIVELY SCANNING ITEMS AND CHECKING HIM OUT. I tried yanking my arm back but he just held on. You are not alone I’m sorry this happens to you when you’re just trying to work
That’s bizarre/creepy that he didn’t let go. I’m sorry you had to deal with this.
I used to work in a hotel that had an “open concept” bar which essentially meant weird old men could stand far too close to me while I poured their pints. A group of rugby fans were staying and as I was pouring their pints one of them grabbed me by the back of the neck and told me to “go up to the room” with his mate. Elbowed him in the stomach and that seemed to put him into place. Quit not long after that.
Anytime someone touches me now I tell them I’m not a dog and they should keep their hands to theirselves as I’m not at work to be fondled! Thankfully none of my managers have had issues with this
Glad that hasn't happened to me, I'd jump a mile or slap that hand away out of reflex. I can get focused on something right in front of me big time, but tapping the table next to me is enough to get my attention if words don't work.
