Having a technical background is helpful regardless of what type of PM you are b/c you need to be able to build visibility and trust with your engineers - engineers don’t respect and are less likely to work well w/PMs that don’t know what they’re talking abt
Depends on what type of product you work on! You don’t NEED technical expertise, but you should know about SDLC.
Technical expertise will certainly help, especially if you are working on a DevEx product, or working on a small team.
None at all for a lot of positions. Some roles are definitely more technical (ie technical product manager roles) and would require you to understand systems architecture and technical stuff. Some roles you might need SQL and some roles you might need data analytics tools. So the real answer is it depends, but I’d say the most common “technical skills” I’ve seen is analytics/SQL
Appreciate the insight, thank you!
