As a woman, I keep pushing higher for the principle. Never satisfied, but not chasing a number, I’m chasing a role. Currently at $450k TC in Tennessee.
So when I did the research it also had a split of men and women in the 1% range. It found that 73% were men and 27% were women, so definitely appreciate the sentiment for pushing higher.
I’m happy with $60k. Anything past that just gets saved.
I am a child

As long as I get paid 20% more than my industry peers, I will be happy. I don't actually need the money - it's just an ego thing
I’m a fan of VP2. Living the dream
Unpopular opinion: Don't be too greedy! Get what you need to provide for yourself and your family, and then make sure OTHERS are taken care of instead of lining your pockets. PS. You realize statistically everyone can't be in the 1% at the same time, correct?
works until u find some schmuck doing same thing as u but make 2x ha
$1 mil per yr seems like a good goal 😳
Agree with seniors here!
As almighty Bezos once said in his interview ,his job is to take 1-2 important decisions a day.
All the ones who say money is not an object, are already super rich. So until you get there, don’t spout this philosophy 😃
the question was, ‘what number will make you happy?’
what many that have hit their prior number(s) are expressing is that’s not what makes one happy —it’s something else 🤷♂️
We've found the 1%ers!
More like 0.01%
Not chasing a number personally. Just looking for enough to pay for everything I need for my family and save for retirement. Think I’m in a good range now from a HHI perspective and my job is pretty chill for the most part
$1M TC for household. Fiancé and I are 26/24, no kids, just bought house. ~$230K TC for household rn.
Close to this myself. How much house did you get and how does it feel financially?

How humble of you! Only $350k? Impressive! 🤣
I’m outside the US so I guess it doesn’t have to be as high
I’m not the primary in my family and never thought I’d hit $75k because all I wanted to be was a SAHM. I’m a WFH mom and passed that goal. If I stay with my company and the organization I’m in, I could easily go up one more level in the next 5 years and be around $150k and that is so much more than I ever thought I’d make.
FWIW, LCOL in the Midwest
I work in Quality and Regulatory for a global medical device company

I would also love 1%, in Manhattan that's about $780k. Not even halfway there.. in my field I'll probably tap out at $500k though

Good thing I have an equal earning partner so combined we should break $1M in the next few years. Don't need "wealth", no kids and plan to die w zero so I just need what I want to spend
I need to walk away with $1mm after tax per year
I would just be happy to be in A/C and at 100k
A/C = air conditioning?
Guesstimating somewhere in the 550-700 range. Currently around half way there. The motivation is mixed between role prestige and pure comp. If I can hit my comp number consistently without the prestige, in turn enabling earlier retirement, I will. But, if I have an opportunity to gain level and firm prestige in the process without sacrificing too many years of comp, I will.
I was the “problem child” in my extended family, always went against the grain in every way possible from extracurriculars to education. My chip is to prove that there are more ways to do be successful and get to the top beyond a structured, regimented, ivy league path.
The number is derived from maintaining my standard of living in my HCOL and hitting a savings number that will allow me to exit the workforce by my mid to late 40s with enough of a cushion to continue my base COL and enable travel and leisure without touching the 65+ retirement funds.

My husband and I make $550k-$600k annually. We are 40 with 2 kids, house and investment property, MCOL. Large money cushion saved up. Some days I think I was happier at 400k :)
I’m happy where we are $$ wise. I don’t need more. I’d like to work less hours for the same money.
Mental health and enough to live on comfortably w decent retirement. My job funds my real life.
I always told myself $200k base. We’ll see how it feels once i get there.
I keep telling myself I’ll quit the corporate grind when I make X and just keep moving the goalpost, but eventually I’m sure the $ will just not feel worth it anymore
Aren’t most of us using the same 🥕 trick 😉
Looks like I’m going against the grain here. I’m probably looking at about $325TC this year depending on what H1 bonuses look like. Even if it’s zero I’ll still be near $300k.
Not happy. The stress of maintaining this is pretty massive at times. I’m not even a primary earner. My partner makes about the same as I do. I’ve literally had the dream of downsizing everything, simplifying, and getting rid of of the trappings of happiness.
I shared this with a good friend and she responded that we’ll regret this if we try it. Money doesn’t buy happiness but it sure makes life more palatable.
Honestly, you have the resources to do whatever you want. You're just blinded by your lifestyle. Get into remote sales or start your own business and follow your own passions.
A few years ago I was making 80k someone asked me this and I said $175k. Now I’m at 185 base with a healthy bonus on top and I’m like ehhh 400 sounds pretty good. I’m sure when I’m there ill have a new target
