Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.

I moved to New York from Sweden and felt like I’d regressed ten years, leaving my lovely Swedish apartment to live in cockroach infested studio. My US salary was much larger than my Swedish one but the cost of living is so high in NY that suddenly I was considerably worse off. So yeah, it’s all relative.

Yup. People move to SF/The Bay/Silicon Valley for a six figure salary only to realize that makes you on the lower end of things in those places.

To a certain extent, it’s all relative. Higher salaries equal higher cost of living.
I agree. Although I’m already in the top 10 most expensive cities in the world so I don’t expect cost of living to be much higher than what I spend now

It also depends on the tax you pay. For example, income tax in Singapore is really low (around 15%) so your net pay is a lot higher than it would be in other countries for the same income.

Depends on rank too though, Singapore pays juniors shit.
What kind of salaries are you talking?
Yeah what city please? 🇬🇧

The work life balance. Culture. Work itself is shit though
What are you saving up for? Is it for a long- or short-term goal? Do you care about planning for career longevity? Other industries pay more. Making money is actually quite easy relatively speaking but there are so many drawbacks and sacrifices that may not be worth the trade off, many of them intangible.
