How much can I ask from BNY Mellon for the role of Lead Full-Stack Engineer.
My Tech stack: Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, React, Node and AWS
YOE: 7.5 years
CCTC: 23.71L all fixed. Have received MVP bonus of 1.6L EY Tata Consultancy Deloitte Accenture PwC ZS Associates PwC

I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

I would go in for 25% higher than you want with an expectation to get around 15% after negotiation
Always ask for more than what you think you're worth at your stage of your career. Give them an opportunity to negotiate and never lowball yourself. Remember, it's not personal, it's business. You're not taking the money out of the recruiter's pocket. And if you tell them what you really want, you might get it.

Say this:
“I’ve done some research and found that salaries for this role fall in the _____ to _____ range. And I’m looking for something in the upper part of that range given my experience and my unique set of skills.”
(Make sure the low number in that range is something you can live with. It’s a negotiation and by giving you the opportunity to say a number first, you get to frame the conversation.)
I never tell them first. I always ask them to share what range they have in mind and then, you get to decide if you can work with that or ask if they can negotiate more or if it’s not worth your or their time. But you should never be the first to reveal your cards.
