Truly I stopped setting income goals because you can easily manipulate your income in the short term to “hit a number”.
Still remember getting my first job at AIG 20 yrs ago, making $28k, was just happy to have gotten a job. I never really had a salary goal, i guess in the back of my mind that making 6 figures was something I wanted to get to at some point, but it was more important to get job experience and figuring out what I wanted to do.
Hitting the six figure mark was always something I wanted to hit which I did before age 30. But it wasn’t salary...it was based on production.
Net worth was always more important to me. I mean...what did it matter what my w-2 said if I blew it all? My net worth goal was $1mil before 40 and $2mil by 45. Focus on the process and not the end goal Good luck.
My goal was 100k by 25, which I missed by a couple thousand, but made more than I’d ever seen before. Blew it all and then some on travel over the next year because I thought I’d made it, started a firm, back up to that in fee income now at 29. Goal is 1mm at 40.
