There is no amount of money I would accept to go into the office. At least in IT there is no reason to ever be in an office. The old concept of a cube farm no longer works.
I don't actually _hate_ the idea of being in an office, but for me it's the hours of not commuting each week that are kind of priceless. I live in a pretty rural area, so remote work also opens up way more potential employers for me, e.g. my current employer is a full day's drive away (never been to their office).
Seems like a good time to dust off your CV and see if there are any good opportunities available to you.
I'm not sure I could ever go back into an office full-time. Hybrid is a bit more reasonable in my opinion
My company is making it a condition of employment, so o guess I do have a number for now.
I calculated it awhile back. Commute time + cost alone was $50,000 more at my current rate to travel into the city. It would have to big a significant jump from that even to make me even consider it. I'd definitely have to hire someone to help me clean, or use laundry service as I'd be losing another 3 1/2-4 hours of my day in commute time.
Unless they're willing to count commute hours as hours worked I look at it as overtime which is time and a half. So I take the travel time on an annual basis, multiply by time and a half and add 25k for my mental health suffering on top of minimum salary requirements
You'll end up finding out that no one pays enough
I would say nothing. I do enjoy working from home with my dogs and constant snacks… but I was also far more active and connected better to my coworkers when I was in office. I think some of us have adjusted to working from home and have anxiety about going back.
