Hotel rooms are so dry, it's driving me crazy

Every time I speak to my director (at least twice a week), he works in how he is getting older into the conversation(humorously). For instance, he forgot something non-work related, said “sign of old age”. He recently told a story, said, this is how old people talk. He likes to come across as a grandfatherly figure, but I’m not sure what to say in these encounters. It is always an innocent, non work related context. Have you guys experienced this ? What is an appropriate response ?

Tough time getting past final step: I’ve been trying to make a career shift for 10 months now and continue to get rejected at the last step. Im confident in the value I can provide and do well at presenting it. Been having trouble moving on since girlfriend ended relationship 3 weeks ago after 2+ years of dating.
