What’s happening at Accenture with layoffs? I heard how the healthcare group is oversold but there seem to be a lot of layoffs lately... confused.

no layoffs, just planned reductions as part of pivot to new and headcount trimming post performance review.

They’re happening, can confirm. All levels impacted

Edit: I guess they’re the same departures/planned reductions we have every year. The people laid off seem to be arbitrarily chosen though (high chargeability, good performance reviews)

As a former Accenture Partner (pre IPO), being Public is brutal and exposes all your warts so you are constantly rebalancing to meet quarterly analyst expectations.

Not sure about oversold. But idle at the pier...

Second wave coming in September.

What is the purpose of working at somewhere like ACN or D if they have constant layoffs? Wouldn't the smart money go to less risky companies? It just seems a bit counter intuitive.

Constant layoffs? That’s very much not the case. Constant managed attrition, yes, but that’s every consulting firm with any semblance of an up-or-out model.

Current scenario is due to macroeconomic factors which I don’t think I need to explain further. I’d say ACN has faired quite well relative to peers. Our ops and tech work keeps the rest of our business quite stable. & we still increased revenue last quarter despite everything. We are in an interesting case because our performance is just a lot more public than others, but I wouldn’t say we are more risky than other shops.

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

Do I tell her my timeline is now a month, or is telling them I'm getting fired going to tank my chances of getting the job?

Is it common to offer signing bonuses for product managers? I've only worked in small companies and I'm currently interviewing at a much larger company. I am expecting an offer this week, but the salary isn't quite where I want it to be. A signing bonus of 5 or 10k would make me feel so much better (obviously) but it would put me right where I want to be for salary this year. I'm taking a cut in salary to consider this new job but I like the company and they actually offer benefits

Was laid off in Sept. Unfortunately we will be seeing many more coming. It's what happens in a recession. Unfortunately I now also have my age against me. Not in a mentally good place at the moment.

If a recession happens, as it looks like we are upon one, how would firms decide who to fire? Would they look purely at hours and cut associates with the lowest hours? Should junior associates start saving money more aggressively now, (401k, HSA, IRA, brokerage) with the expectation that there might be future cuts?

Making a lot of money relative to the average but feeling poor? Median after-tax income was ~$55,000 in 1981 and was ~$73,000 in 2020. Using a Bank of Canada inflation calculator $55,000 in 1981 is equivalent to ~$165,000 today, which would put someone in the top 10% of earners today. But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?

I have been in an awkward reporting structure for 2.5 years. On record I’ve reported to the VP of Marketing, who was crazy toxic, and technologically inept. I’m a senior website manage and she had no interest in my role. She shirked me off to also report to her two directors, PR and Call Center. Needless to say, that’s been a difficult situation for me. She’s gone and the new VP starts tomorrow. Any guidance on how to ensure this ends with the incumbent VP?
