What's the best level to make move to industry that will be an increase in responsibility...manager, sr mgr?? I'm seeing a lot of folks thinking they can move to a directors position after 2 years...

I left KPMG about a month ago to be a senior leader in a smaller tech company's finance function. It isn't bad, get pretty great flexibility... but I don't think I like it overall. How long do I have to stay until I can boomerang to consulting without it looking bad? Given the crazy hiring right now, can I do it sooner rather than later?

I have accepted an offer for the role of Director of Data Science & Analytics and I'll be working with old colleagues. I am very excited. I haven't given notice yet because I am waiting for the background check to complete, but my boss just asked me about traveling to a meeting in November. I start at the new job Oct 25. I am a 2nd year associate at a plaintiff’s firm specializing in toxic tort cases (individual). I’ve had the opportunity to be third chair on a trial, and will likely be second chair in an upcoming trial. However, given the track record of the firm and the amount of money at stake in each case, I am afraid I won’t get any first chair experience, if any, for at least another 5-7 years. I am considering staying at the firm but trying to get trial experience through side Pro Bono work. Thoughts?
