Learn everything you can about the company. Pull regulatory filings if they exist, read investor materials, research their history and product offerings. Come in knowing as much as you can so you can hit the ground running.
Spend time researching your new employer, but don’t go overboard. During a recent job transition, I took 5 PTO days to relax, reconnect with family/friends, and sleep! I felt refreshed and ready to go when I started my new role.
Read the company's press to try to figure out what they're proud of and how they brand themselves. Get a feel for how the execs talk by watching interviews.
And then...relax and take time to yourself so you can come in fresh.
Make sure in your first 2 weeks that you take the time to get to know your key internal clients and as many of the people on your team as you can...I require all my new hires to put 30 min meetings on the calendar of every person on the legal team, plus 4-5 of their key clients, to get to know them and how they view their role before jumping into any actual work streams.
Deep dive into the industry. Review industry standard agreements, competitors, course of dealing etc. focus on your company’s marketplace in said industry as well.
