^dont be a dick A1, that's not always true.
Nowadays schools cannot see if you cancelled a score. Before 2-ish years ago they would see a "C" if you cancelled, but now they have no idea you even sat for the exam should you cancel your scores. No reason not to take it as many times as you need to do well - I know a bunch of people who took it more than twice and ended up at M7s.
Can't help BUT Poets and Quants would be a good place to find the answer. Assuming you checked there already.
If it takes more than 2 tries, you aren't top 7 material
Yea OP really seems to be weak material 🙄
I don't think schools care much, but I would just out enough energy in the 2nd try that you don't do another one.
But as for cancelled scores they said they couldn't see when I asked. Not sure how true that is though
Check out this awesome article on GMATclub: http://poetsandquants.com/2016/07/19/many-times-take-gmat/. Basically, you get diminishing returns when you take it more than twice, if you're aiming for >700
Just as long as you show improvement - you should be fine. I took it 3 times. 5 should be absolute max!
^disagree, I know lots of top 7 grads who took 3+ tries and have done very well. But I heard mixed reviews when I was debating taking the GMAT again myself and I actually called up the admissions at some of my top schools to ask. They pretty much said it doesn't matter as long as it's not like 6 or 7 times. That's subjective though, I'm sure some people would say otherwise. So maybe you could call the admissions department at your top schools for more clarity?
Not sure if this really matters but I'm asking for my GF. Not myself (although this may be helpful for me in the future)! Thank you all who provided advice though!
Thanks D1 this was my general understanding as well
^ multiple tries with improvement is ok. Multiple without improvement is probably not ok
