Lexus is generally your best bet for luxury and reliability if you're looking to keep costs down. Won't be as high tech as its German counterparts but it will be a nice middle ground.
Used LC500 if you want reliability and fun. Used Jaguar F-type for more fun and much less reliability.
I’m getting goosebumps reading this. I’m a car guy but at 1.2 -1.3m HHI, I’m not sure I’m ready for a >100k car… drive some baseline luxury German cars but haven’t been able to even think of a brand new Porsche. The best I’ve done is looked at 2nd hand ~50k miles options but stayed away. Reading this makes me think I should walk into the Porsche dealership this weekend.

True that!
It depends on your lifestyle and what you want a car for.
For me, cars are one of my biggest hobbies and passions so I have some impractical and fairly expensive cars. But I have also lost some serious depreciation over time.
I guess what I would say is make sure you prioritize the things that really matter and make sure to put your family first. But also buy an Ariel.
If you want another data point, this year I am getting my first new 911 with MSRP about 160k, and our household income was around 450k last year. We have one toddler.
Before the 911 we have had a string of performance/fun cars and on average we get a new vehicle every 1.5 years in the last 10 years. I love cars and my wife tolerates my love for cars, and I appreciate that greatly.
991.2 T is a great one - yet to drive a 992 T
The year I got my 911 (~$120k) my household income was $365k. To be fair, we had no kids, my wife's Defender was paid off and I got a 2% rate so all of that made me pull the trigger.
Today we make about 10% more, but the 911s are like 30% more expensive so I think I'm being priced out.
Basically, I'd recommend going with the car that has the best depreciation performance
Looking for and needing an SUV WITH A THIRD ROW AND SPACEUS. I have four children and all but one Or in sports and their team travels a lot. But It seems like the more money I save the higher they get on the downpayment or the price of the SUV!!! If someone can help me find one that would be greatly appreciated
Minivan not SUV is the answer.

Get the car you want. If you're getting a German car, get the extended warranty and enjoy it.
HHI $550k. Bought a used 911 this year for $60k or so all in. Waited until I could afford it in cash and also picked a model that was heavily depreciated already. I’m feeling a bit of a crunch as I know we need a new $50k suv within the next year. It comes down to your budget and your savings goals.
MBA loans, Mortgage, HCOL. It all adds up quickly.
how much does wife make
Wife is SAHM.
Where do you live? 300k with 3 kids is not much in HCOL but LCOL gives you more leeway
You make $30k a month AFTER taxes, insurance and maxing retirement.
You can afford a sports car - stop with that.
Also FWIW OP
I bought a base 911 a few years ago whilst making $290k
Sold it for a few less $$ than I bought it for and the monthly cost for the life of the vehicle ended up being like $475 a month.
Reading this - it’s AMAZING to see how many people have ZERO IDEA about how to pick the right car and lose almost no money whilst driving it.
💡💡
As an example for a GT3 - I had a buddy of mine buy a 991.2 GT3 2 years ago for $185k - he sold it 5 months ago for $190k. Obviously he had taxes and insurance, but maintenance was practically $0 and he basically drove the car for 18 months for like $400-$550 a month…. Which is probably 1/2 of what you would pay to rent one for a day…
HHI is 400k. Wife has a Sienna and I have a GX. I bought a 2002 E39 M5 in 2010 and keep it in bubble wrap. Bought a 2006 C4S 8 years ago, and we use it for date nights and track events (but a Cayman or Miata is better for these).
I get it, you work hard and want something nice. Consider a well maintained but higher mileage car. A well maintained Porsche can last a long time. I bought the M5 at the bottom of the depreciation curve before values sky rocketed. I’ll probably sell it to pay for my oldest kids college.
D1 actually senna values have shot up
HHI at $500k, low COL/Midwest city. I’ve owned over a dozen cars the past 20 years. Porsche 911 (992.1 was the favorite), although my Rivian R1S isn’t too far behind.
At your HHI, a Lexus would be a good option. Or a just off lease BMW (if you prefer more driving engagement).
Im sorry, but what are you people doing for work making 500k a year?! I knew it shouldn't have screwed around so much in high school. Dammit. 😝
