When did you start having the “talk” with your daughters? My 10 year old has begun asking me interesting questions - “if I came from mom, how did I get some of your characteristics, daddy?”. I deflected a bit, but plan to start having the conversation soon. Advice?

My oldest is 7. We have been talking to our kids at various levels since they started asking questions. We use the proper names for everything in conversation but explain other common terms they could hear. Eg Penis / vagina. My oldest has known about sex for several years at an age appropriate level. Eg it’s something grownups do and makes babies.

We do this because it helps to protect against sexual predators and demystifies the topic.

My wife doesn’t do well with those talks so I had to do it. My daughter was 11 I think and it wasn’t long after she started her period. The initial talk wasn’t a big deal really. I just gave her the straight facts. She was more shocked than anything. “What?!?! Those things go where daddy?!?!” Lol! The serious discussions didn’t come until she turned 13 or so and actually started showing interest in boys. Those were more difficult because I had to give her different scenarios based on emotions that I’d never really experienced being a male. I read a lot and told her the truth. Her mom has stepped in on some of those talks now. The key is to remove the awkwardness if possible. I’m no expert by any means, but I feel like my approach worked. I hope! She’ll be 17 in a couple of months and she still comes to me for serious issues and no topic is off limits. She even knows about my somewhat promiscuous time in the military. “Daddy! You were a whore!!” Yea daddy’s not proud of that honey, but he can spot them a mile away now so you’ll be prepared for anything when you come across one, lol. Good luck to you!

Quite welcome and thanks! Just be prepared to change gears super quick if needed. 😊

two girls now 15 and 18. 10 was old enough but do make sure your spouse and you sync up on answers first to avoid awkward confusion

Ha ha. My wife refuses to have these conversations so it’s all me :)

I am starting to question my existence in this world. I have a nice job, decent salary, i work out and eat healthy, maintain my health, read 3 to 4 books every month, dont have any personal commitments (single), in my early 30s and things cant be any better. Of course with the exception that i had a real bad break-up with my fiancé 6 months ago. And i dont have any symptoms of depression, but there are days when i just feel like what is all this for?

still there’s not a single good word spoken for me from her side. we do not have any understanding between us, i come from a conservative middle class family, even though i earn well and life is not difficult for me, i live way below my belt.
She and her family has threatened me and my family, that if things don’t fix between us then i will have to bear the consequences, they are rich and wealthy, they will implicate fake legal case against me and my family.

Is it okay to disappear from friends & family to work on career change goals (several months)? I want to focus and not get distracted by friends & family needs to see me or attend certain things as it takes up a lot of time. If I focus for a short time, I can quickly achieve my goals to switch. I can hangout with them after all of that. What do you think?? Any feedback will be appreciated.

My wife often calls me by 5:45/6 to ask where I am if I’m not headed home yet. Sometimes she’s stressed with kids/dogs/dinner and really wants me home. This really throws off my concentration because it makes me feel rushed. Like many practices sometimes I’m out at 5:30, other times it’s much later. Just depends and is unpredictable. Any advice on how to approach this?

Okay finance gurus, I have an idea and interested in your thoughts. Might be a bad one so be gentle 🙂. I have a 2 yr old and another on the way. Need to start planning for college. I was thinking of buying a condo or 2 in lieu of saving and selling them down the line for tuition. Condos downtown are pretty inexpensive (T3) so it’s financially feasible. But is this a good idea or too risky?

Are there any mothers here who voluntarily gave primary custody to the kids father? I love my children fiercely but tbh I don’t think I’m cut out to be a single parent. Family and friends tell me I’m a great mom but at the end of the day having them on my own is exhausting and I end up just either letting them do whatever they want Bc I don’t feel strong enough to set a limit about it, or yelling at them. They’re 4 and 7 for reference. Please constructive responses only. Thank you!

I have a student who only comes to school two days a week and then only for 1 hour. He tells me I have to pass him so it doesn't matter. This is very frustrating. I knew this student hates school and often states he is stupid. I just do my best to encourage him. Build confidence. Any ideas to encourage him more? By the way, taking to his parent does nothing.

My sister and I have recently both come to the realization that our parents guilt us into spending time with them or visiting them and the guilt causes us both to shut down. Our dad is the main offender, often reminding us how little time we have left with him, asking us why we’re leaving so soon or reminding us about all the good deeds and sacrifices made. We’ve both noticed this shift in our relationship with our parents after graduating from college and starting our own adult lives. Continued

My wife is in sales at Mercedes and she has been averaging $200k a year and growing YoY. She loves her job, however she works long days and barely gets time off. We plan on having kids within the next year or two, and it’s highly u likely that she’ll be able to keep her current gig. We want to find a career that allows her to work remote or that at least gives her a better work life balance so that she can see her kids grow up. Should she get certifications to give her a shot at adtech?Too late?

If you could go back and start over would you still choose this path? Or would you choose a different career and/or a different time to have children? I accidentally became a working parent in law so while I love my job and my children I don't think I would have planned it quite like this.
