Just take magnesium instead, I've done that my whole pregnancy and haven't had any constipation issues. That's what my midwife suggested.
One 500mg pill per day. I used to use stool softeners for occasional constipation but my midwife said especially during pregnancy magnesium is a better bet

Honestly colace backfired for me. doc told me to take is as preventive after birth and it ended up making me so constipated that I got hemorrhoids for the first time because my body got dependent on it. I didn’t even need it but I took it to ease bowels. Honestly should have stopped after a few days but they recommended for a month.
I then switched to a natural approach. I took slippery elm capsules, and ate raw celery and Sunchokes daily. Helped me greatly!
I had a similar with Miralax. I was told to take it and ended up getting even more constipated. It was the worst feeling. I didn't bother taking it and just tried to drink lots of water and eat veggies. By third trimester, my bowel movements became better. Just try and stay hydrated.

I’ve had good results from taking those bedtime magnesium powders, similar effect of drinking a glass of wine- $20 at Costco, or you can find fancy pregnancy branded ones online for about three times as much

Oh and don’t underestimate benefits of a daily 30 minute walk!!
Colace + Miralax almost my entire pregnancy, third trimester and finally just tried milk of magnesia which at a normal dose is 1000x more effective, worth trying
Thank you all! I've had no luck with Miralax but will be buying some Milk of Mag asap
Milk of magnesia works, but I just take a magnesium oxide pill daily for prevention
Miralax for sure!
