All depends on the type of client. I've been client side in the hospitality industry, so it was a lot of fun. But it's rare. Be careful though, marketing depts client side are full of people who think having a pinterest account makes them creative.
Got an offer once, turned it down. Just couldn't do it. I asked one of the brand managers what the culture was like and she said "well there are some young people who dress cool like you!"..... Bye.
Wear a suit!
I've had two account friends who joined our clients after working on the account agency side. And never looked back. I have one former client who became account at another agency and never looked back. I have a PM friend who was my PM on the account join the competitor of the brand we worked on. It's all relative to you and what works for you. There's no "right" answer and these swaps happen all the time.
It would help to know your level and what area (creative, strategy, media, analytics). I spent the first four years of my career client side in strategy/analytics. the work was very repetitive at the entry level roles. There also wasn't a ton of room for growth - I was an associate (then senior associate m) reporting to a Director who was brought in from the outside (ex consultant). It was a retail client, so we did wear jeans.
agency side - definitely more variety. I'd say the pay and hours are comparable in my experience. Less stress because it was the same few projects I could do in my sleep. That's not to say one is better.
