Why can I only find therapists who practice CBT or various CBT offshoots? Is it my insurance or is this a British thing? CBT has its place, don’t get me wrong, but what I need now requires more peeling back of the layers and I’m finding like 1 in 20 at most even list a single non-CBT technique on their profile (and none who have space in their diary)

I’m assuming you’re looking for psychoanalysis? There are loads of them. Look specifically for psychotherapists

like

There are some who do third wave behavioral therapy like MBCT, ACT, DBT, or EMDR etc. depending on what you’re looking for you can look this up on Psychology Today. Agreed original CBT only is not helpful, but that seems to be the party line for NHS.

Also most are online so don’t limit yourself to those in your area. I just looked up ACT and put in coverage for the six people who took my insurance.

Also wth is ‘short-term psychodynamic therapy’? Really hard not to read those ones as quacks preying on vulnerable people

I see psychodynamic and they dig into trauma. I find my experience has been much more in depth and powerful than what my partner and a friend has experienced who both did CBT.

I have a looming sense of self hatred. I take medication I workout and do all the things to feel good, but it’s just stuck there. Constantly thinking I’m trash, in a bad person, etc. Feeling guilty for things idek if I should feel guilty about. This is a privileged problem and I know it’s minuscule to compared to the actual struggles of so many people in the US and abroad. Just wondering if anyone has felt this as well and if so, how do you get rid of that self hatred?

Is it naive to hope that there could be a job out there that I actually LIKE doing as opposed to just forcing myself to do it for the paycheck? I work for a great company with (mostly) great people but still find myself wishing I could be doing anything else throughout the workday. After a number of different jobs in industry and consulting have left me feeling the same after a year or so, I'm starting to wonder if it'll always be this way and actually liking work is just out of reach.
