Why is everyone asking for recommendations on movies and shows to watch? Does everyone binge watch shows now due to WFH? Aren’t people doing actual work when WFH, or just watching movies?

EY1 Thank you. WFH helps in the sense I don’t have to physically see them. Think I will make my 1 year this summer at the firm and head out

Wow. Please stop assuming the worst. Some people like to put things on in the background to make up for the missing ambient noise of working in an office. Others are using television and movies about outbreaks to process their anxiety about what's happening in the world and their lives. Some are just trying to figure out how to pass the time after work or to get their children to watch a different movie than Frozen 2 on repeat. Some are just trying to be social on fishbowl. People asking for movie recommendations is not the crisis. The coronavirus is.

My team has ingrained in me a toxic behavior to always be suspicious of others and question and interrogate if they are actually doing “work” and worshipping the firm. I am projecting their values and opinions on others. I’m a first year associate drunk on the kool aid. Forgiveness for the offense and thank you for detailed response.

If you’re in LCOL or MCOL, is your firm losing people to California firms offering remote work and California wages? I know some have left for Seiler; Citrin Cooperman; CohnReznick; Abbott, Stringham, and Lynch; Frank Rimerman; Green Hasson Janks. Just curious if it has affected your office at all and if you left for one of those firms, what is your experience so far?

I wrote a rec letter for one of my legal assistants for law school right before COVID got bad and we all started working remote. Ever since then, this assistant has seemingly been slacking. There’s only so much I can actually see/review without seriously micromanaging her. I’ve spoken to her about her slacking at least twice and both times she just brushed it off. I want to withdraw my rec letter, but I feel like it’s too late. She is leaving at the end of the summer. Should I just let it be?

How do you deal with back pain? I tried all things that could potentially help like getting lumbar support, ergonomic pillow, stretching steadily throughout the day etc. I'm seriously concerned if it will be what blocks me from moving forward in my career. Typical hours ranging 60 to 70 and i know my back will only keep getting worse during WFH and it's out of control. TIA.

Back in the day, I did my own PR, sales & marketing for whatever business idea I was running with at the time. What’s a good remote sales opportunity I can do anywhere in the world that won’t be painful or too high touch? Where I can use my social & business skills (markets, law, cloud, publishing, media, logistics, algos, social media, books, ebooks, design, podcasting, marketing, press release writing, voiceover, journalism) to earn a few extra shillings?

I'm receiving feedback from my supervisor that I cannot be promoted based on my feelings about past projects. I've asked for examples of inappropriate behavior and actions related to my "feelings" and he's always come up blank. Everything has gone well in terms of delivery and client management and I have positive feedback from others that supports this. This situation feels pretty sexist to me, and I'm not sure there's anything I can do other than leave. Anyone been in a similar situation?

Useful tip: Try to maintain a file where you diligently update notes about all the projects you have worked on, what challenges did you face, your learnings, client/ manager testimonials etc. This will help you in your next interview. It is not humanly possible to remember every single detail.
