There is a lot of internal competition that you might not see. Pharmaceutical companies want very specific experience, i.e. 3 years in a similar role, in the same TA, understanding of IMR process etc.. On top of that, even for internal candidates endorsement is key, the more senior the better. So these roles are informally already filled 6 months before they are even advertised as there are backdoor informal conversations between leadership. If you are serious about moving into pharma, you need to consider a lateral/down move and in a different capacity, i.e. sales to then work your way up. Good luck!
bc of the "Great Stay" - there are people with vastly more experience who hold onto their jobs for dear life, but when they lose them, they are the more qualified applicants who end up getting the jobs
I thought a lot of those jobs are outsourced to specialized marketing firms?
Depends on the level but there are a lot of industry-specific nuances that require actual marketing experience to be effective. I used to be in consulting and moved into the industry post MBA. The longer I am in the industry the more value I see in having industry experience across different types of brands/functions.
Can you do the job coming from consulting? Absolutely. Can you be effective? Depends on what level you are applying for and what type of skill set you already have.
