Standard of living, Health care, good work culture are some of things that we don't get here in India.
Yeah true. It's a personal choice in the end. Maybe someone just wants to earn money that time and it's the only option. In that case, it's a very good opportunity.
It is not important for me. Was offered and I denied. Because I am the only son of my parents and love staying with my family. And many of my friends and colleagues work there and I am happy for them also. It doesnt matter to me because I don't compare. Your comparison with others makes you miserable. And going onsite is not a benchmark of success. We must stop fitting into some societal patterns and seek what we really want for a happy life.
Exactly same for me , was there in Melbourne for one year, though I had opportunities to be there for long time, i decided to comeback. Most of my colleagues now got PR and well settled there.
I have no regrets at all.
I have been to onsite stayed for 2 years post my bachelor's, Now did MBA and staying here
Pros of onsite:
WLB
Better compensation for fresh graduates like 2-5 yoe
Travel opportunity
Explore new terrain
Cons:
Do all your work by yourself
Use publit transport mostly
Miss home badly
No one to take care while ill
Can't come suddenly on emergency and all
Its a mix and match, I would say but ya not a bad exp, but I don't want to go onsite again

Hi Fishes,
What do you think is a better opportunity? Working in UK or In India.
POV: I have an opportunity to work in UK, but I would want to come back in 2-3 years. I am unable to decide if I should take it and come back in 2-3 years or should I switch within India.
Just wanted you opinion to see the pros and cons of these 2 options
Off topic, but can you explain how you got a chace to work in UK? How much experience do you hold? Etc
Can anyone from cognizant help me with the notice period for freshers during training period?
I can understand your pain but I believe still you have a good chance being in Cognigent. I too waited for 7 years in a service based company finally gave up but when I was in notice period, I just put a funny demand to my manager at coffee break saying that if company gives onsite I will stay back and it worked out. I stayed in UK for 3 years and recently back to India. So all you need is patience and also you need to create your own oppertunities because no one has time or need to offer you anything
Old age care, healthcare , quality and free education, freedom of living life in your own way and choosing your own career, independency, parents self independent, staying in live in or married, both are fine, divorce is not judged, developer or manager both are fine, girl born in house or boy both are fine. Dignity of work , unemployment benefits, good amount of women in long term work without judgements on what they wear.. Some benefits may come after PR. Before that too there are taxable insurance schemes to take out maximum benefits. Here in India health insurance will never cover general OPD. Only if you are admitted for more than 1 day they will cover. Old age care facilities are very rare. Many parents are dependent on children. Children have mistreated old people. No proper law to help. Staying with parents is ok but if it is done as a cultural norm , it is just like jailing parents. Many parents also never had jobs as previously women did not work here. They suffer a lot. They have to obey children. You have to bear their healthcare cost too and if you are not rich it could be disastrous. Many more unfortunately. You can still stay in this country but these are some drastic differences. That does not makes a country completely bad.
They do have . But I have never tried
I have not managed to go on site as well. Partially because I didn't try hard enough. I live with my parents and I enjoy being with them. I just didn't want to leave them.
There are merits and demerits to everything and you have to trade off so you can benefit most from it.
I'm not married so I can't comment on saas bahu ke problems.
Merits
Less working hours in foreign countries if we ignore eastern countries like Japan, Saudi
Better work life balance
Better commute experience, infrastructure, internet, air quality in cities. India probably have them in some places too but moving within India can be challenging with little to no monetary benefits.
Better pay
International exposure, exploring different culture
Demerits
Can't bring parents
Higher taxes
Costlier rent
Costlier living expenses
Racism
Inability to adopt new culture can bite in future
Less freedom of movement in few countries
If you are not a permanent resident, you can't plan future, get home. Few countries don't give PR either.
Staying in India also have merits and demerits
Merits
You get to live in your home land
You can live with your parents
You have an identity and freedom of movement within country.
You are not subjected to racism if you look like everyone.
You can own house, invest in future
Lesser taxes as long as your income is below 50LPA
Demerits
Poor work life balance and long working hours
Lesser salary
Regional bias (north vs south Indian problem)
If you earn more than 50LPA uou have to pay taxes on taxes
Only do one job at a time as per law
No benefits or unions for employees in IT sector
No law that protects us from big companies that exploit us with insane policies.
That's why going abroad for short term to earn money and coming back to India is the best option.
By short term as in, at least 6 years. If your salary is more than $120k a year then in 6 years you can easily build a home in any Indian city or clear your loan quickly. Of course assuming you live modestly in the foreign country.
Depends on priorities. For some its money, they want to earn in dollars, come back and settle down here. Some pursue for longterm or permanent position for a better quality of life for self and children. Sometimes onsite also adds a lot of weight to your profile as you have exposure to directly meet the client and build the relationship and skills. It has its own pros and cons and thats why it depends on what is important for you.
Paisa Milta hai Bhai
Just an experience, work culture
Travel, learn about new culture makes you think differently..
Apart from that 15-20$ per hour called a very good income.
But same company pays more then 50$ per hour in US..
There is nothing like we need less money for livin
As same company Apple sell iPhone costly in india As compare to US.
Pay’s less salary in india..
So why?

kuch nhi gumane ko mil jata hai bas
Very Interesting thread
The most important question is how to do I get onsite oppurtunities? Should I lobby with my manager? Should I outperform peers? Should I go the bootlicking way? What's the criteria to go onsite or how are people selected?
Could someone throw light?
@cognizant1 have they already started collecting named for H1B this year at cts
How to get onsite? Someone please guide.
Health care, standard of living and better labour laws
Health care is better but also comes at a higher price.
Standard of living is better but also comes at a higher price.
There is no job stability in abroad. Risk of force reduction is higher. Since companies continue to offshore jobs.
The individual who asked the question has done the calculation and his/her potential savings in abroad are same as his/her current savings in India. So based on that information I shared my opinion.
I know there are many Indians who simply want to go abroad to earn the "NRI" tag even if financially it doesn't prove beneficial.
So unless and untill your savings in abroad (after taxes and all expenses) are not significantly higher than your current savings in India. Then from pure value proposition it doesn't make practical sense to move abroad
My scrum master who is in Infosys USA want me to come there, and I am interested too. He said he will talk to my offshore manager and was asking me procedure but I also heard that visa are lottery based so is it completely luck based? I really a newbie can someone please help me
