You listed “life” twice. Life is only important to the extent you have dependents who would be destitute if you were to pass away. The wealthy sometimes use it as a tax shelter, but it sounds like that’s not you.
I don't know, I feel like insurance is even more important when the economy isn't good and prices are at an all-time high. I'd rather be covered and pay extra per month then be hit with a $10,000 bill out of nowhere.
If you’re living paycheck to paycheck, you need insurance. If you have a solid emergency fund, you should self-insure as much as legally permitted (unless you know you’re particularly accident-prone)
When you’re genuinely worried about basic needs like food, water, and shelter, all insurance can feel like overpaying. In that situation, I’d argue that anything beyond essential health or auto coverage may be more than someone can reasonably manage. I’ll admit I’m a bit jaded right now, just received a $90 bill for a routine check-up, which definitely colors my perspective.
Insurance is needed to protect what you have. Hope you find a way.
