I still think this card is worth more than any other card on the market.
The $300 flat travel redemption is worth more than an equivalent ancillary fee subsidy on one airline of your choice. We're in consulting, you likely have status or can reimburse any fees that come up. If I had the platinum, I wouldn't get any of that back. I prefer Lyft since the days of Uber's "you don't tip with us!" BS, so the 10x multiplier is more valuable to me.
The 50% redemption bonus makes the Chase points, already more valuable, an even better proposition. Freedom 5% categories can be used to get this 50% extra if you have that card.
There aren't that many Centurion lounges, and the ones I've been to are always beyond capacity. I get premium lounges for international travel, but these aren't available outside the US, except HK (not a good place to be right now), and you have to think about how much time you'll be spending at LGA, DFW, etc... Lounge food isn't better than a reasonable restaurant, and I don't see the need to shower in an airport for domestic flights.
All good points, I work in finance though so don’t have the mon-thurs travel schedule of consultants but still travel enough to have silver and agree some of these would still be overlapping
I’m also thinking about the Amex platinum. Although, there’s still a $300 travel credit on the reserve which I always use (hotels, vacations, parking, etc.) so really the cost will be $250 a year vs the $500 at Amex.
Anyone got any insight on potentially better cards?
What other benefits of the card are you currently using? At the annual $450 price point, I would have lost out with just $300travel credit. I have the preferred and was just looking into upgrade when they announced the increase 😒
You get ~200 in uber back for Amex and also 200 in airline incidentals (not towards a flight) so like money back on other expenses on traveling then status on a few items.. 100 bucks to saks fifth back too among status on a lot of items and other items
I recently got the Plantium for a couple reasons: EY has an Amex corporate card, so I applied through there and get a $150 statement credit every year, so with the airline reimbursement and uber credit, it's basically no cost. Additionally, the airline reimbursement is triggered for the remainder of a flight when you use a delta gift card, so I just buy a gift card and take $200 off a flight that way.
I thought GCs are no longer working?
Correct, should have clarified: pay for the GC out of pocket and then use that for the credit. In short, $250 flight costs me $50 which I'm pretty content with.
