Wow. I can say from personal experience my dog benefited from it and was able to use be from leg again from it after a FCE episode. I’ve see it done and one of the first sites is one to relax them and it works. So unless you’ve seen it done, don’t knock it. I think it’s a wonderful addition
Oh wow, I guess maybe I am wrong! I'm glad to hear that it worked so well for your dog. :)
The practice I work at does it and it is absolutely amazing!! Multiple patients have benefited from it. Most pets sit pretty darn still but for the ones that don’t we use frozen baby food typically
Also how much would you charge patients for a service like this? I'm surprise the pets sit still
I have seen the method for several times and I should say it works. It is considered a safe and effective therapy that can provide long-lasting relief from the pain or discomfort associated with injury and illness.
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
One of the doctors at my clinic does it occasionally and we have always seen benefits from it in those cases. As far as keeping them still its not like in humans where they can’t move at all, at least in our cases. The needles were placed along the spine and extremities and after the initial placement the pets were allowed to rest comfortably in a cage for how ever long doctor wanted them there (usually 15-30 minutes).
The way you described this honestly sounded so therapeutic. I might have to try it myself
I don't know about the pets but my friends have tried it on themselves and have encouraged me to do so. If it's anything like what they experienced for the dogs then I'm sure your patients will love it
Same here. I think I have to get it done on myself first to make a comment or maybe this is just my excuse to go to the spa
I can see how you would think that it would be one of those luxury services that's just really a scam but no it really works wonders. My patients love it! They don't move
I haven't heard of this. Let me do my research and see if this is something that we should add at my practice
No, you're not wrong. Acupuncture for animals is a bit of a stretch and I've seen very mixed results with it in my experience. I think it's better to focus on treatments that are proven to be effective and have minimal risk to the animals.
Acupuncture is a complex procedure that can be difficult to perform on animals, especially those that are more active. My experience suggests that the benefits of acupuncture on animals are minimal, and the risks and costs of trying to perform it are too great to justify.
I've seen it done before in other places and it usually involves sedation, which is not ideal. I think it's best to steer away from this kind of treatment. So you're not wrong
I've heard it works after about 3- 4 sessions on pets. I haven't had any experience with it yet. It would be interesting to hear how many it really benefits and how many it doesn't
There isn’t a cancer facility in America that doesn’t offer acupuncture to help with pain. Ditch the western idea that only hard drugs help, they aren’t always needed, and it’s very helpful for long term management, we never had issues with them moving, even somewhat bad animals were oddly well behaved for acupuncture. The acupuncturist I worked with was very open and basically if a client was like “This doesn’t really do anything yada yada” he’d just be okay then let’s stop doing it?
I’ve worked at both general practices and speciality hospitals that offered acupuncture. Many owners report improvement in their pets comfort level and improved mobility.
VERY RARELY NEEDED SEDATION. Occasionally needed trazodone. If a pet needed more than this, then they are not a good candidate for acupuncture.
We used food and positive reinforcement also allowed owners to be present.
This can be a great service to offer your clients if done correctly. Stay open minded
