Would you leave audit at big 4 for Advisory at a lower-mid tier firm? My gut says not to do it but I do wanna end up in TAS asap

If you want to be in TAS go there ASAP, mid tier TAS is better than big 4 audit if you want to be in TAS

like

Can you explain why?

Take the mid tier TAS role. After a year or two, if u wanna hop back into Big 4 it’ll be easier with TAS experience rather than audit experience alone

likesmart

I’m looked into it and the mid tier TAS salary was below my big 4 audit salary so I was like ehhhhh

funny

Also maybe worth mentioning that I’m only iffy bc I’ve heard quite negative feedback from a friend of mine

because good exists on a spectrum. mid tier TAS is better than big 4 audit because the skills are more transferable.

Don't

Elaborate please

What’s TAS?

IMO, mid tier firm life is much > big4

Where do you work? Not saying I don’t believe you, but IMO all public accounting firms are gonna wreck your personal life

Left Big 4 and I’ve never been happier at work Audit -> Accounting advisory

My wife and I both left PwC as audit SMs. I went to CBIZ audit. She went to BDO audit. Work life balance is definitely better (max 55 hour weeks in busy season). Biggest difference is the caliber of people you work with.

Better caliber or worse caliber?

Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money. Wwyd if you were me: we have more cash than we need in savings account (not a ton more, but more than our usual emergency / buffer). Have $20k left on car loan at 3.5%. Normal I’d invest the extra cash and keep loans. But with markets and inflation as they are, should I just pay the loan off?

Making a lot of money relative to the average but feeling poor? Median after-tax income was ~$55,000 in 1981 and was ~$73,000 in 2020. Using a Bank of Canada inflation calculator $55,000 in 1981 is equivalent to ~$165,000 today, which would put someone in the top 10% of earners today. But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?

I’m reviewing my resume getting ready to start my job search and have a question for recruiters, hiring managers. I’m looking for a role brand-side not agency side. Specialist roles aside, such as digital, when you see someone describing themselves as a “generalist marketer” is this a resume you’d pass on? My past roles have been such that I do a lot of marketing projects, tasks etc. but I’m not a specialist. I’m worried if I use this terminology I won’t even be considered for a role. Thank you

I’m being taken advantage of with being thrown so much work and really don’t see my salary increasing to be in line with my coworkers doing similar work. I’m a consistent high performer - management reviews tell me that much.

My coworker did mention to the manager that they’re not being paid well for the work they do, and our manager took it personally and told them they’re ungrateful 🥲
