Higher position and better pay, as long as the project(s) you’d be working on would still feel interesting and build your career. You don’t want to move if you won’t feel fulfilled in your new role.
As a creative I’d never take pay over better work opportunity. It’s a personal opinion but as long as I’m getting paid enough to cover my expenses then I will always choose the work. Maybe it’s my mentality from growing up poor but yea that’s where my head would be at.
Can you guarantee you’ll be working on it? And do you know exactly what you’ll be doing for the client? Or for how long?
I once stayed for a project I was so excited about and was promised I’d be working on, but my existing project at the time got a major extension and I ultimately wasn’t able to. Then I come to find out that the team working on it was miserable from poor management and a weird client relationship. I’m still bummed to have missed out on working for a client I believe in, but the grass was absolutely not greener for the team on it.
If it’s already a place that you hate, would staying only be worth it if the project team is good? I’d make a massive pro and con list to see what would make this project worth it for you. No right answers, but I’d definitely have to weigh out if one future client was better than my career advancement or overall happiness.
Well said. Some agencies have one client or brand that everyone wants to work on. But most never get the chance. And keep holding out hope. Eventually realize it won’t happen and move on.
