Atlanta and it’s not even close (but I love golfing and am not about the NYC life)
Have you lived in NYC ?
NYC but biased bc it’s my favorite city. If you don’t love NYC then ATL is the east choice here
Great comment! 🙄

ATL
I’m a New Yorker. I have a huge network of friends here whereas I know very few people in ATL. Problem is I’m not saving jack shit up here and am sick of the late hours…
I’m also single, which makes NYC far more attractive. But, the ATL gig is superrrr attractive for a lot of the reasons you guys touched upon.
Why even consider Atlanta then? You will hate it. Having a good network of friends outweighs most things. Potentially fine after getting married and wanting to settle down but even then. I know a couple that moved to ATL because they had a baby and the city was locked down. Just saw them recently and they regret it big time.
Have lived in both the Atlanta and NYC metro regions (friends and relatives in both). If I were in your shoes, I’d take Atlanta/Charlotte to settle down and then fly into NYC (Newark is on the NJ Transit line into NYC Penn Station) if I wanted a taste of NYC life (concerts, Broadway, museums, culture, etc.).
Was in Manhattan a few days ago. Green shoots in many places: the city is on the comeback. Advertised hotel rates (3* and up) were through the roof (pushing $400+/night inclusive of all fees) for very small rooms. Slower pace of life and overall WLB are a plus for Atlanta/Charlotte. Those who settle in NC tend to stay there for the long haul. Good housing choices/affordability in metro Charlotte (including the SC side), I understand. Mountains (including white-water rafting between Cashiers, NC and SC/GA) and beaches not too far a haul when Charlotte-based. One underrated plus about NYC: getaways to Long Island, New England, and upstate NY are very doable (and also Quebec for a ~400 mile trip one-way) and can provide a welcome diversion from NYC life.
What a thoughtful reply! Thanks for sharing your perspective!
OK FB fam. Y’all just helped me make my decision. ATL / CLT it is! Cheers to higher quality of life and milder winters! Thank you all for the great perspectives.
Accenture3 - thank you!!! Totally agree. Quite happy with my decision. NYC will always be there but ATL and Charlotte will be a great change of scenery.

Hmm if all my family and friends weren’t in NYC then Atlanta would be a no brainer

A4 - as someone who has lived in New York for the past 10 years, let me assure you that 200k is NOT even close to minimum wage

$300k is a lot of money 😬

I like what you’ve done manager

$300k in NY is like $200k in a normal cost city. That's objective.
Then you added better WLB. If that is valuable to you, then that's a clear advantage for you.
Personally, I don't like the culture or lifestyle of NY. So, unless the opportunity or pay is a clear win, I would never consider NY.
ATL has pluses and minuses. At the minimum, it's a 4 hour drive (or a short Delta flight) from awesome mountains and trails. Also, Delta is by far the best US airline. Being at their hub means very convenient and cheaper flights for work and fun.
The politics of Georgia is pretty bad. But frankly, most of the US has major problems. So it's kind of a wash there.
In ATL you can step outside and see actual trees with actual leaves. And unlike NY, you can breathe the air without gaging from the stench of stale garbage.

NYC…at least you have voting rights there
And no other rights

New York, but mostly because I’d hate living in either ATL or CLT.
NYC
ATL. No brainer. Good money + WLB + opportunities to move up + low cost of living
Is $5k per month post tax (40%) worth the stress anxiety and other painful health + mental implications which come with NYC long hours? Choose ur own preferences..
ATL then CTA sounds awesome!
All these people saying Atlanta - have you lived in NYC and Atlanta ? Lot of bias on this board from people that have only been exposed to LCOL cities. They see NYC prices and are shocked so cant understand why people live there.
@SD1- your points:
1. agreed it’s dirty
2. I’m saving more/month compared to when I was in a MCOL city, as are my other friends that moved here
3. Subjective
4. Atlanta had a 58% increase in homicides in 2020 (source: Atlanta journal-constitution). In 2020, NYC saw a 40% increase in homicides (source: npr)
Where do you want to live?
