I feel blessed y’all. I have a remote/out of state position at NYC agency. 140k which is 25k less than I was making before laid off from previous agency in 2020 but that was not remote. 15+ years experience. Still I wish it was more like 250k - I’ll never see that in my life. Oh well.
tell me more about producing for tech?! i work 60-80 anyway and would love to make more
I was at $52k until I quit in 2021. I’ve more than doubled my salary since leaving. The culture isn’t better, but I’m finding more balance and less financial strain. Make money moves early - if you’re not getting paid properly, get the experience and get out. It’s an uphill battle if you don’t.
100k as a producer in LA. Senior Producers start at 125, EPs start around 175 I believe.
This is a a good range to consider. Agency level EP's start at 175. Brand side can go up from there too. The confusion can be when brands use EP as a catch all for HOP and Director level, This is where you need to read the finer details. Freelance rates can vary widely, many are day rate 4 figures, not 8 hour days however, hourly minimums for EP range should be 130 and up. Producers at agency start level can be lower, 75-85K, Senior Producers 125K-155K is a good range. Director of Production levels are usually (hopefully) 200K and up - but I do not hear of big big salaries that you may get being on the production side (production companies) or creative directors ranges...it all depends on where you land, and when. Seems obvious but negotiate up from the jump. The leave job and get another job at a higher rate or salary days are old news...although it can be done.
Freelance live action EP level commercial/content producer (25 years experience), averaging 250k+ for the last 6 years. But hours are exhausting, 12-14 hour days 6 day weeks. I am responsible for my own benefits, lol.
Count yourself very lucky for the salary. No boom and bust for the freelance though? I have been freelance for over a decade, I subtract 2 years for covid times though. But it is a grind, and the network is what it is all about!
185k, 15 YOE. occasional bonus bumps get me close to 200k. i work relentlessly at least 50-60 hour but more like 70-80 at peak times and rarely have time off. i love my job but i’m so disheartened by how little potential for growth i have. i would love to make more money but i dont see how i ever will in this industry.
i should have noted- i am staff at an nyc agency and fought HARD for my salary
VP producer $195k NYC agency. Really easy job tbh, no evenings or weekends….30-35 hrs of real work a week. Manage a couple of junior producers. 12years experience. I won the lottery yes
are you hiring? because I have 10+ years of experience, moving to NY and would love to be on your team :D
Can we start including how many average hours per week people are working in these stats?
Because I think if you work 40 hours a week anything around $100-150K isn’t bad. But if you’re working more than 60 hours a week. That’s different.
8 years at my agency. 1 year at a post house before that. 40-45 hour weeks normally. 50-60 when projects heat up. I’m currently on month 3 of a project where I’m averaging at least 50. $130k as of last year. $110k for 2 years before that. I’m mid 30s and senior producer. Mid west based.
I saw another Fishbowl post recently that mentioned the average pay for a CD in NYC is around $250k. I’d be interested to see where we all fall in terms of ranges. What’s the most you can make as an EP, HoP, etc?
My last role at an agency I was $150k as a Sr Producer II - I was the highest paid there and when layoffs came around I was cut for the same reason
Senior Producer. In production, agency side, for 9 years and other agency roles for 5 years before that. Senior level for 3 years. $125k in Atlanta. I do feel even this level of pay is under for the work and detail, as well as the general climate of the economy.
NYC, agency side, 13 YOE. Was making $170k at last full time role (but got laid off, bc of the high salary on the team).
Currently freelancing and (after accounting for insurance and unpaid time off, etc) likely making $200k this year, without all the drama.
Why do you care about the next generation so much? It's on them to figure shit out and get paid what they think they deserve.
sounds like someone coming from an insecure position. Great leaders make great leaders.
EP/production lead, $200k agency side NYC
thank you for this! I hope both sides of your pillow remain cool.
$75k/nyc/5 YOE. Haven’t gotten a raise since 2023.
At 5 YOE I was at around $85k sad how salaries have been dropping. Also sad how many companies are ignoring inflation and not giving annual salary bumps even if modest. Thank you for sharing.
AP Chicago / $65k / 3YOE
40-50 hr work week
Honest question.....Why do you care so much about the next generation?
Pretty simple. If they get underpaid, you get underpaid. It redefines the compensation required for the role. Or worse, they replace you and you can't get a job bc you're expecting too much now.
Hey OP, I’m thinking your salary is ok but on the low side for sure & could be higher if you’re in a HCOL area. Are you in a big city like NY/LA/Chicago, or somewhere south or Midwest/smaller market? I was at about 140k as Senior in a high school cost of living area.
Senior producer / Chicago / 8 years in my current agency, maybe 10/11 years industry experience overall / 40 hour weeks usually, sometimes more, honestly it’s not that bad for me / $130k
Original EP, at 129k that’s pretty underpaid unless you’re in a small market. You should be closer to mid six figures or at least 140k. But again I have no idea if you’re in a small town/small shop or in a major metro area.
You're right I am. But the Canadian market does pay much less. Even though our cost of living is only slightly less than LA or NYC. The industry as a whole here has much less spend from clients and it's not just cost based, it's regional marketing spend is a small fraction of that in the US.
$120k, 10 years agency producer experience, NYC. Easily working 50-60+ hours a week. Just how underpaid am I…?
It's not horrible, but imagine it would be tough in NYC. have you been with the same agency the entire time?
Senior Producer / Midwest US / 9 YOE / $125k
