Don't negotiate with Terrorists
Let Friday offer know that you have an exploding offer, but that you're more interested in them. They'll move it along.
Exploding offers are a sign of bad things to come...
Agreed with all of above. That's a bullying tactic. Never fall for it. Also at this stage if you hadn't told them by now that you're in the midst of actively interviewing and pursuing a few different opportunities, you should tell them that you're about to close a process with another opportunity and will be carefully considering your final answer and that you would never want to accept and then retract from it and put them in such a position. So, you'll give them your final answer early the following week. And thank them again profusely for the vote of confidence in you by extending you an offer.
Then, tell the Friday people you have received another offer but you remain very much interested in them so you'd like to see if they can let you know sooner about the offer In writing
Yup. You don't actually have an offer from #2. You can also accept the offer from #1, and if you get the offer from #2, take it and back out of #1.
#1 will be pissed, but there's really nothing they can do about it. It's also not as problematic for #1 if you back out before your actual start date.
That exploding offer stuff is BS - it’s just meant to amp up the pressure on your end to accept so they can close out the position. They shouldn’t be surprised if people back out of them and their whole ploy backfires every now and then. So accept but feel free to renege .
👆Agree. I’d actually think twice about a place first using the term “exploding offer” and actually putting that kind of pressure on a candidate especially if there is deal memo language to review. I’m sure the interview process was far from speedy on their end.
Just tell them you need till Friday. If they can’t give you two days it says a lot
Thanks really great advice, much appreciated.
Appreciate it thanks.
