Hello RSM coworkers! I am thrilled to be moving to RSM into a Scheduler roll. I just found out yesterday and want to be as prepared as possible in the next steps.
So here are my questions.
How long does the background study take? I'm guessing admin staff have a study that is faster and less complicated than someone in Tax ect.
When training at home what did you need that wasn't supplied by RSM? My home office is well stocked but I want to be as prepared as possible.
Thanks in advance!
Favorite office chair?
Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.
https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491
My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.

Hi everyone. A PDM specialist here. Joined Deloitte 5+ years back as ‘Senior Solution Engineer -On-site’.Later in June 2017 all these ‘on-site’ folks got rebranded as PDM. Slowly started to realize how PDM is getting sidelined as a ‘discountable’ group. Sometimes I feel contract jobs are better than being at PDM , but obviously tied up with D for visa related issues. No career progression so far and don’t see any positive changes in the near future as well.I think it’s high time to call it a day.

Second the airpods! I originally bought them because I had extra tech stipend to spend and thought they'd be nice to use in my personal life, but they've actually been really helpful for work, especially in terms of being able to participate on calls while taking notes and listen in on calls when working from home in a shared workspace.

Standing desk is a must have for me. I love mine.

Go on Instagram or reddit and start looking up desk setups and workstations. Just because you have the basics doesn't mean you can't start upgrading to a really nice and soothing home work environment. This was my COVID hobby that never stopped lol.
Note that if you look up these pictures, a lot of it will be from gamers. But you can still take good inspiration. Just imagine what these setups look like without all of the crazy lights. Look at their desks, monitors, speakers, cable management, keyboards, headphones, chairs, etc.

Cable management…now you’re talking!
Standing desks are great. To add another option - I invested in a really nice keyboard and mouse. You use them all the time, and they can really make a difference on your wrists.
But my real indulgence was a nice zoom setup - good camera, microphone, and lights. If you are on zoom calls all day, and especially if you are in negotiations, I think a good camera setup can make all the difference. There's nothing worse than being in a stressful situation and not be able to hear the other person well.
Keyboards and mice are personal preference. If you still have a "real" computer store or even a Best Buy in your town, it's worth going and trying several out. My personal preference is for mechanical keyboards. While it took some getting use to, I find trackball mice much easier on my wrists - plus you don't need to move the mouse all around your desk, which is nice when you have a large or dual monitors.

Fujitsu scansnap. So convenient!
Glass dry erase board. Worth the extra costs
Two desks—one standing with monitors and one “traditional” just for reading hard copy documents. Also, a scent diffuser. Citrus smells boost focus.
Has anyone said walking pad?! I walk while I do drafting/writing-esq work and during meetings where I don’t have to heavily participate. Spent around $250 at Walmart.
Currently in the same situation with already having a home setup and deciding between applying my $500 to a new iPhone or a Nespresso. Our definition of home office supplies is pretty broad and includes a lot of things that make WFH easier (remote-first tech company)
