If I like public accounting but just don’t like the B4 environment and hours, does it make sense to move to a smaller regional firm? Would be looking to switch from audit to a more niche service line. Part of me is scared about losing better exit opportunities after downsizing, but I’m kind of tired of being worn out by work all of the time. Anyone do this? How different do exit position levels look between an exit from M1 v M2 v M3?

Do M1s generally exit as managers, M2 as senior managers, and M3 as associate directors?

Just trying to understand what I should realistically shoot for as M1.

Kind of regret going into accounting/audit lol. Was anyone else told “accounting can do finance but finance can’t do accounting.” I was under the impression that transitioning to finance would be easy, but all the exit ops I see are senior accountant, internal audit, accounting advisory, etc.
