How would you go about trying to make a lateral move to a firm that does not have any openings posted? I'm not inclined to use a recruiter, but I will if that's the most effective way. Is there any chance they will call if you send your resume with a cover letter?

Got a first round at Amazon coming up. The initial phone screen seemed to go really well, but one thing that threw me is the recruiter kept stressing how hard the interview process is (no shit!). Hi All, I worked for 4 months at some agency as a full time, due to personal reasons I had to leave that job. After a month I joined another agency where I’m currently working/furloughed. In resume I do not mention that job where I worked for 4 months due to obvious reasons. Can any new potential employer find out that 4months I hid and covered under previous employment? Please advise, I’m scared as I’m not getting any offers despite interviewed at several organizations.
