Anybody have insight into ballpark salary range for Director level pay at Microsoft in a non-engineering role? I understand there’s probably varying degrees based upon org/function, as well as location. Just assuming Remote work, what would salary/bonus/stocks look like? Or just TC in general?
Got my verbal offer from citi on Monday..they said 15 lpa fix and since you’ll be joining in September, expect some hike(not much, but something will be there), same for bonus. What’s the cutoff date for the bonus and appraisal in citi?
Also, is the pf and all included in the ctc or is it over and above that?Citi

There’s two main parts to data analyst roles. There’s the behavioral and then there’s the technical. If you’re in consulting you DO NOT need to worry about the behavioral portion because they ask you about time management, prioritization, difficult convos with clients and other stuff we deal with all the time. The hard part is the technical. So Leetcode (leetcode.com) it’s a website that ask you technical questions and you need to write the answer in the coding language. Typical data analyst interview will ask you sql and python questions.
Wanted to share my story. I love working with data and I loved coding. In college I worked on databases but I was too scared to do Comp Sci. So I did Accounting but was too dumb and I switched to Finance. I then also picked up a minor in IT. It was too late for me to switch into a data analytics role so I did IT Audit. I didn’t find enjoyment in the role so I did a rotation in automation. I didn’t find enjoyment there as well and I asked to be switched into analytics by I couldn’t so I left. I picked up new skills and learned cool stuff but I knew this wasn’t the industry I wanted to be in. So I started to start interviewing and setting my eyes on industries that interest me.
I’m looking to do something exactly like this - can you tell me what the first steps you took to get out of It Audit and into data analytics were? What tools did you use? Where did you learn to code? How did you know when you had learned enough to land the first data analytics role? Or the second?
In college I had a job as a database developer doing data models and writing VBA to automate processes. I took introductory python courses in college too.
I took a year off after college and before Kpmg to study for the cpa and failed audit and was “yeah no this isn’t for me” and I started learning python some more on my own
I did so much automation in college that I felt sick of doing manual stuff when I got to KPMG that I wanted to automate stuff
So I went and started working with alteryx and automated a process and submitted to that case competition. I won first place in one of the categories (if you figure out who I am add me on LinkedIn)
I then got into a rotation program and started building cases and wrote scripts that mimicked python code for developers to translate into actual code
I then tried my hand at coding a case for an internal client in VBA and I was able to do it successfully for them
This gave me the confidence that I needed to start building scripts professionally and not just for personal projects
I couldn’t continue my rotation so I started looking for jobs outside of the firm
I built a GitHub portfolio and did some analytics on US census bureau data using their API
I applied for half a year and landed a data analyst job in supply chain because of my one GitHub project
The manager and I wrote code very similarly and he felt we would be a good team in learning more about data analytics and python. He was right we had a good time
In this past year I learned a lot about sql abs python and building data pipelines
Then I got the feeling that I wasn’t in the right industry so I started interviewing again
Not just for any job but for specific industries like streaming services and companies with a large online platform with a large user base. I’m really interested in consumer psychology on online media
During this time I got into a data science program . I would say this is what got my resume picked up by recruiters a lot more.Although I had a job as an analyst a lot of companies want to see keywords like data science and whatever
It took another half year to find my current job but during that process I had a lot of interviews where I had to take technical exams
Failed most of them because I never prepared that much but honestly I just didn’t want to be really stress over getting a new job - you might think differently
I got an offer in November but turned it down because it wasn’t in the industry I was looking into - this was around the time I started realizing what industry I wanted to be in honestly
Also in October I started messaging professionals that went to this conference in 2019 and asked if they had any tips (<-this is the networking part)
I went to the conference in November and got a lot of connections with recruiters but nothing panned out and I kept interviewing for 2 months and that’s when I got this offer
I’m curious as to what big tech company pays a data analyst with 1 year of experience $150k. That’s such a broad title these days and typically doesn’t require much technical depth. Congrats on you though.
It’s total compensation: Base + RSUs
But go on levels.fyi or h1bdata.info or even Glassdoor lol all of these places have salaries in that area. My company is not even considered FAANG but they’re pretty close
