73 billable hours into a 4-day work week. And crossing 80 today (first time for me). How y’all doing?

That's insane. You need to tell whoever is forcing you to do this that you're taking a day to sleep.

I feel you. I had a 38 hour straight block of work this week and billed over 80 hours. Body doesn’t recover as easily as it used to from this sort of thing. Hang in there!

I worked a 26 hour “day” this week.

80-100 billable hour weeks will happen, but set boundaries and don’t let them happen often. It’s okay a few times a year when you have a lot going on in multiple deals at a time, but don’t let it become the norm for you!

You’ll get used to it. Hang in there. Yes it’s toxic. But don’t give up on your dreams whatever they are.

I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. I am also looking to relocate to a different state. How do I go about properly marketing myself to companies that might not take my relocation and minimal experience seriously?

What are firm’s known billable requirements? Is there a ramp up period?

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?

Had 2 hours of billable work today 💀

I’m a first-time prospective lateral likely to get an offer shortly. I just received a lateral questionnaire that requests billable hours, rates, fees collected, etc. for the last three years. Forgive my ignorance but is this normal/standard? Do people actually answer these honestly? One of the reasons I’m leaving my firm is there isn’t enough work in my group so of course my hours are low.

I’ll go first: MP told me that on initial emails, I am always to start with “Hello [name],” but after the initial email, I am not to address her by name again in the same thread. Initial greeting can only be “Hello [name] ” because just first name is too brisk and a “Hi [name]” is too informal. Had a 5 minute, in depth conversation as to why she prefers it this way…
