A sincere advice for people in the age group bracket 22-26 years (max)

Get out of these shit IT corporate world.

Start preparing for SSC CGL(mainly target this exam). There are a hell lot of opportunities if you clear this exam and these jobs provides a lot of job respect in the society.
Even if the salary is 60-70k (starting salary) but the job security and the facilities are simply incomparable with the IT jobs.

Don't waste your time & energy in the ruthless labor market just for money.

Because I am quite happy in IT, i work according to me and have a good work life balance.

Why can't he say?. You are happy and he is not. He is just saying his opinion. Everyone has their own experience and all are equally right.

My 2 paisa, spent 13+ years in IT industry and currently in same age group for which author is worried (35+)

I think people who has joined IT industry after 2008-09 has not seen any real recession, and current situation is not of recession but companies try to take the cost measure for preparation of recession in case it comes.

IT industry of India is very good, we do have many options jobs and many companies which can offer good money at various experiences level. I have seen many average people in terms of coding or technical skill survive and thrive in Indian IT industry, people do have many options of becoming business analysts, product management roles, pre sales roles, licensing roles, quality engineering role, development and engineering roles, devops roles, managerial roles, sales roles, support roles, administrative roles, learning and training roles, system administrator roles, procurement roles, architectural positions role, network Specialist, financial and fintech SME roles, functional specialties roles and many others. Believe me guys no other industry pay 10-30 lakh money to 4-5 years of experience people unless until you are some rankers in those fields.

Many IT people doing their jobs from comfort of their home since covid times and many working in hybrid mode. Recently when I met few relatives at weddings, majority of them are from Non-IT backgrounds and have business backgrounds, they all were like ohhhh you are still working from home. For them it’s never going to possible. Believe me guys most of industry don’t have wfh or hybrid mode jobs.

Now coming to fear of losing job, do I have that fear after 13+ year of experience?? Yes I do.

Do I have confidence that if I will loss the job will I be able to get another job ? Yes 💯 %

Do I have skill which will allow me to continue with higher pay ?? Yes as of now.

If I am making higher pay, what I need to do to justify that pay ? Take more responsibility, know how to make things at scale, know the best practices of field, security fundamentals, performance critical problems and their solutions, latest technical paradigms and architectural patterns, agile practices, be humble and proactive, know how to communicate the right way which convey the message, learn to say NO when plate full with work without being rude, disrespectful and arrogant, learn to negotiate well when in good position of negotiation.

When one is 10-15+ years of experience they have learnt so many things at various stage, know how to sale those learning and lessons along with skills. Sometimes its very easy or simpler things but if we don’t know how to sale it to top people that I have these critical skills and and it will be useful to your organisation/project than its of no use.

Keep technical fundamental clear, in IT same old solutions get repackaged in new way and get sold as new thing. Few years back web pages used to serve from server side(php, jsp, asp. net), and then it got changed to SPA JS framework and now they are coming with SPA(react) + Server side rendering (next.js). Server less solutions being sold which needs real servers, desktop applications replaced with mobile applications, Monoliths get divided into microservices and server divided into docker and K8. Tomorrow something new will come which will repackaged or rebranded into something else to tackle some new problem. But fundamental remains the same.

Indian IT industry is $100 billion+ industry and majority of work comes from developed countries and big pie of work is done by IT companies. For normal people like us we don’t need those big clients, but there are so many small clients which need technical expertise, try to get 1-2 good clients and work for them on part time basis, even if you need to start from 10-15 dollar per hour do it, once you gain confident and have good numbers of client portfolios one can easily reach 30-60 dollar per hour rate along with existing job. This way one will become independent of jobs and can easily rely on multiple client for work. Some of my friends easily making 30-55 lakh in freelance work and they have left their main job and started doing this full time after sometime. When one have 4-5 good clients and they know they are not dependent on main job. I know people who are doing main job and some part time freelance work in their free time and making good money. Getting initial freelance work is not easy but once they get set it change the whole path. Try to be on those freelance or remote work platforms.

Finally, be confident, learn new skills and know how to sale the our learning, generate 2nd stream of income, save and invest well (our real income is Pay in hand - all expenses), learn how to say NO when loaded with more work, network well with various people, teach your juniors without bring jerk and behave well with others, sometimes people remember you for your good behaviour.

Best wishes.

Why do u need job security when u can earn in 10 years as much as a govt employee earns in 30 years.

@Someone in EY, we work to earn. Of we had plenty of money sitting around our home, I would have spent my life with what I usually love to do like playing instruments, drawing, making videos, playing chess with my family and friends etc. instead of spending my day in office.

SSC CGL ka haal suno..
One of my relatives appeared for SSC CGL but result was declared after 2 years. By that time, he was so frustrated and got mental pressure as many of his batchmate were selected in either software industry or other jobs and were earning decent enough to not fall in mental pressure zones.
Later that relative joined railway as Loco pilot after engineering degree 😜
Many govt job aspiring candidates, accept lower jobs or position after 2 to 3 years of struggle as they cannot clear high paying govt jobs bcoz of heavy competition and less openings.
I have seen Doctorates degree holder applying for Chapraasi positions. You may also have read these news..😁
This type of GYAAN is not applicable in india with less vacancies, delay in results, reservations quota on top and exam paper leaks, corruption in filling positions.
At least software industry is giving 60 to 80% of fresh graduates a job to live.

Upar se ab most govt banks are getting privatized. Lol 😆 🤣

Respectfully disagree, also "corporate IT world" is generalization, life in IT has many shades, if one is stuck with bad company/project/manager, they always have the option to upskill and switch to other better organizations. This freedom is rare in other sectors.

like

Cisco is the best in terms of WLB

IT sector is employing a lot of fresh graduates. There aren't these many openings in Govt sector to be fair.
But, as I am also leaving IT sector soon, at age of 36, for business. so I suggest you all young guns to have a plan B if things go wrong in IT, or you don't feel like spending 9-12 hours n sometimes weekend shift in IT jobs.

like

Getting a govt job was lot more easier before 2015 as there were many vacancies in Central govt and banking sector due to financial inclusion.bank jobs were slashed after demonetisation and multiple failed attempts of govt to drastically change the structure of ssc cgl to online, situation became very tough after 2016 and almost herculean task for general category people. Steadily increasing cutoffs, less vacancies, scams in exams and finally unwilling Ness of govt to create more jobs in govt sector are the main reasons.
Still one should try their luck.Getting a good post in cgl is surely a way to get rid of this savage world of IT.

I know how diffucult is to get a job after gap of 4 yrs.
Let me remind u once again competition is increasing day by day.
And what security ur talking about if ur rightly skilled no matter what u will land up in getting a better job whereas u will get oppurtunities to travel around the globe which no govt organization will give neither it will give salary to travel on ur own expenses..
