Accounting profession is begging for more people to get their PhD and teach accounting. But when you Look into it, you realize you make only a tiny tiny stipend for the year. How can someone go from making a decent salary in PA to living off scraps for at least five years? I have a family with two kids, there’s no way I could leave and get a PhD even though I’d love to.

Once I realized that most of the focus was on research instead of teaching is when I lost interest. I have no interest in writing random articles that many don't read but that's where most the pay comes from. The less you're focused on research the less you make

My dad loved to teach and preferred to stay adjunct (it was part time for him) instead of pursuing tenure. He hated the pressure to publish.

I barely got through undergrad & CPA.

Can’t imagine a masters in accounting or PHD.

In grad school my tax professor was a part time professor and full time tax attorney. She was lecturing about taxation of non-cash employee benefits and mentioned how our university had a tuition swap agreement with another university in the state. Her daughter was going to the other university (tuition free) and how the other university had a professor whose kid went to my university (tuition free). I then realized the tuition benefit was probably worth more than she was making teaching part time 🙃. I dont think most of my accounting professors had PhDs, just Masters and CPAs

Tl/dr: become a professor when your kids are in college for a little extra benefit

Yes! My friends mom was a professor at a Jesuit college that has reciprocity with other Jesuit schools and catholic universities too. Tuition was free and all they had to do was pay for room and board, but all of them became RAs so they basically got a free quality education.

I think you could probably do an accounting phd in 3 years?

Three is reasonable if you’ve settled on a research topic and plan within the first semester and nothing goes off the rails. You’d also likely want to be aligned with a long term study or interest of your sponsor such that you could leverage research already in progress. Four is more reasonable but, depending on the program, you could be working for that forth year and making a salary beyond the stipend.

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

Amex people thoughts on this offer, as I have recently(4 months back) joined a startup with Base(33) and CTC(35.5) but not enjoying the work here. Amex brand tag and culture is good.

Hence, considering the offer, does this offer look good or is there any scope of improvement? Amex American Express

I got a job as a infrastructure consultant right out of college 3 years ago and later became a solutions architect at the company I am at now. I have a degree in CS and never really got the chance to use my programming skills (Java, python, Springboot framework). I’m finding that I’m not really in to platform engineering or cloud infrastructure and would like to pivot to software/app development. And suggestions on where I could get started on making this transition?

I'm currently working as an electrical designer in the MEP industry. I really don't like it and I'm working towards a career change which I'm actively applying for and getting certified etc. However, it's been a slow process and I'm currently underpaid where I am so would it be wise to make a lateral move to another MEP firm simply because they offer me more money while I still look for a different job separate from this field? Or just tough it out?

Study LinkedIn. Look at people who are where you want to be tomorrow. Check their profile. Go through many more of such. Then wisely navigate through the best approaches used and implement the same.
